Thin "G"

Early on in the life of Plate IV, two notable flaws were found. Detail They occur right below the two impressions that would later rust about 1916 and then have to be substituted!

The first, shown on this page, is from Position 40 and is the "Thin 'G' " variety.
The second, at its right in Position 41, shows a 'dot' on the "Y" of "PENNY".

Since both varieties lie beneath the 'Rusted" and "Substituted" cliches a block would show all the major varieties from this plate. Two blocks with the "Rusted Cliche" varieties are known, both are in government collections.
